“In India, postgraduate training consists of a 3-year residency. While the 1990s saw the first academic department of geriatric medicine at Madras Medical College, Chennai, no further programs began until 2010, when three new departments were established at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi; Christian Medical College, Vellore; and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.  A proposed component of the National Programme for Health Care of the Elderly was to add Union Government support for 36 new annual postgraduate positions in geriatrics sponsored by 18 new geriatric medicine departments in 18 states by 2017. …”
