Vallalarpuram Sennimalai Natarajan, an Indian geriatric physician hailed as the Father of Geriatric Medicine in India, holds the distinction of being the country’s first Professor in this field. Recognized for his pioneering contributions, he was bestowed with the prestigious Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2012, alongside the B. C. Roy National Award in 1994. Notably, during his tenure as Professor at Madras Medical College, Chennai, Prof. Natarajan introduced the MD postgraduate course in geriatric medicine, marking a significant milestone in medical education. He remains actively engaged in shaping national policies on aging as a member of the National Council on Ageing and Older Persons (NCOP), an agency under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Prof. Natarajan’s dedication extends to scholarly pursuits, as evidenced by his authorship of numerous books on geriatric medicine. Currently serving as the honorary Professor of Geriatric Medicine at Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, he continues to advance the field with his expertise and leadership.

Professor Vinod Kumar is a former Professor of Medicine at AIIMS, New Delhi, and a former Professor and Head of Endocrinology at PGI, Chandigarh. He is also a member of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Expert Advisory Panel on Ageing and Health in Geneva. He is a patron of the Indian Academy of Geriatrics and the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India-Delhi Chapter (RSSDI-DC).

Dr. Surekha V is a distinguished geriatrician and esteemed professor, having previously served as the head of the Department of Geriatrics at Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. Recognized for her outstanding contributions to geriatric care, she was honored with a Certificate of Excellence at the Double Helical National Health Awards in 2019. Dr. Surekha V’s dedication to advancing the field of geriatrics is further evidenced by her role as an editor for the Journal of the Indian Academy of Geriatrics (JIAG), where she plays a pivotal role in shaping discourse and disseminating knowledge within the geriatric community. Her tireless efforts and commitment to improving the lives of older adults serve as a testament to her unwavering passion and expertise in geriatric medicine.
