About the Kerala Chapter
The Kerala Chapter of the Indian Academy of Geriatrics (IAG Kerala Chapter) was originally established in 2019 and was revived and comprehensively revamped in 2024 with a renewed vision to advance geriatric medicine and healthy ageing across the state. To provide a strong legal and organizational framework, the chapter is registered under the Societies Registration Act as the Cochin Geriatrics Academy.
Since its revival, the Kerala Chapter has rapidly evolved into one of the most active and vibrant state chapters of the Indian Academy of Geriatrics. It brings together geriatricians, physicians, academicians, researchers and allied healthcare professionals committed to improving the quality of care for older adults through education, research, advocacy and multidisciplinary collaboration.
The chapter conducts monthly academic meetings, including expert lectures, clinical case discussions, journal clubs and multidisciplinary CME programmes, fostering continuous professional development and strengthening geriatric practice across Kerala. It also actively promotes undergraduate and postgraduate education, collaborative research, public awareness campaigns and community outreach programmes focused on healthy ageing.
Recognising the need for stronger policy engagement in the face of Kerala’s rapidly ageing population, the Kerala Chapter has also emerged as an important voice in advocacy. Recently, a delegation led by the Chapter met the Honourable Chief Minister of Kerala to discuss the future of geriatric care in the state, highlighting the need for strengthened services, workforce development and age-friendly health policies. This engagement reflects the chapter’s commitment to working alongside government and stakeholders to improve the lives of older adults.
A defining milestone in the chapter’s journey is the honour of hosting GERICON 2026, the 23rd National Conference of the Indian Academy of Geriatrics, in Kochi from 19–22 November 2026. Under the theme “Geriatric Care Without Boundaries,” the conference will bring together leading national and international experts to showcase innovations in clinical geriatrics, research, education and policy, while reinforcing Kerala’s position as a leader in healthy ageing.
As Kerala continues to be one of India’s fastest ageing states, the IAG Kerala Chapter remains committed to advancing excellence in geriatric medicine through academic leadership, research, advocacy, community engagement and multidisciplinary partnerships. Guided by the principles of evidence-based, compassionate and person-centred care, the chapter strives to ensure that every older adult in Kerala can age with dignity, independence and the highest possible quality of life.
GERICON 2026
The Kerala Chapter of the Indian Academy of Geriatrics is proud to host GERICON 2026, the 23rd National Conference of the Indian Academy of Geriatrics, from 19–22 November 2026 in Kochi, Kerala. Centred around the theme “Geriatric Care Without Boundaries,” the conference will bring together leading national and international experts, clinicians, researchers, educators and allied health professionals to explore the latest advances in healthy ageing and geriatric medicine.
GERICON 2026 will feature keynote lectures, scientific symposia, hands-on workshops, multidisciplinary panel discussions, free paper presentations and networking opportunities, providing an exceptional platform for learning, collaboration and innovation. The conference reflects Kerala’s commitment to advancing excellence in elder care and will showcase the state’s growing leadership in geriatric medicine.
